BfN2027/23 Breastfeeding Awareness Worker – Peer Supporter (Lewisham & Greenwich) – Closing Date 13/10/2026

Job Title: Breastfeeding Awareness Worker – Peer Supporter (Lewisham and Greenwich)

Salary: £14.80 per hour

Number of Posts: Hours can be shared (5hr/11hr split)

Type of Contract: Fixed Term until 30th June 2027 (most likely to be extended)

Start Date:1st November 2026

Hours of Work: 16 per week

Working Pattern: 9hrs in Greenwich including 5hrs of Peer Support on Sunday in QEH and 4 hrs by agreement with the Service Manager; 7hrs in Lewisham by agreement with the Service manager

Work Location: ULH, QEH, community, home

Responsible to: Service Managers

Closing Date: 13/10/2026

Proposed Interview Date: 22nd or 23rd October 2026, online

Job Information: The Breastfeeding Network has been commissioned through the London Borough of Lewisham and the Royal Borough of Greenwich to provide breastfeeding peer support services and breastfeeding welcome schemes across both boroughs, working closely with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Maternity Service, Health visiting teams and Family Hubs partners. The project aims to ensure those who choose to breastfeed have access to appropriate support regardless of age, ethnic origin, beliefs, sexual orientation, social status and employment status. Breastfeeding Peer supporters provide infant feeding support to families in the hospitals and community. Our passionate and motivated peer supporters work on the postnatal wards and in the community, offering home visits or 1-1 appointments. The post holder will work in the community, at Queen Elizabeth hospital, Greenwich (Sundays), and ad hoc cover at University Hospital Lewisham, providing peer support. The postholder will also work independently, hours to be mutually agreed, leading on implementing a Breastfeeding Awareness scheme in Greenwich and continuing management of the scheme in Lewisham, publicising, recruiting and providing support to venues, workplaces and NHS premises welcoming breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
