Course Title: Helpers (Sandwell)

Course end date: 17/06/2025

Day and time of sessions: Tuesdays 10am – 12pm:

  • Intro call – Zoom – Tuesday 25th Feb 2025
  • Week 1 – Zoom – Tuesday 11th March 2025
  • Week 2 – Zoom – Tuesday 25th March 2025
  • Week 3 – Zoom – Tuesday 8th April 2025
  • Week 4 – in person session – Tuesday 6th May 2025
  • Week 5 – Zoom – Tuesday 20th May 2025
  • Week 6 – Zoom – Tuesday 3rd June 2025
  • Week 7 – in person session – Tuesday 17th June 2025

There will be online work to complete and group discussion to take part in on the training website in between sessions.

Assignments to be completed by: end August 2025

Course venue: Online (Zoom) with an online training module plus 2 sessions in person at Smethwick Family Hub on Tuesday 6th May 2025 and Tuesday 17th June 2025. Reasonable travel expenses for the face-to-face training sessions may be covered with prior agreement from the Service Manager.

Closing date for applications: 28/01/2025

Proposed interview date (if applicable): Proposed 10am – 11.30am Tuesday 4th February 2025 (will be confirmed after shortlisting of applications is complete) – will be held online using video conference.

DBS/PVG required: Yes (BfN will arrange this at no cost to volunteers)

Course information:
We are training a cohort of Breastfeeding Network peer support volunteers to support families across Sandwell, at community venues, Family Hubs and on hospital maternity wards.

We are keen to ensure the volunteers represent the local population so encourage applications from people who speak other languages – please include detail in your application if this applies to you. Following completion of the training and registration with the Breastfeeding Network, volunteers will be expected to commit to regular volunteering for a period of at least one year.

Please indicate on your application which area(s) you are planning to volunteer from the following targeted areas:

  • Community group – Tipton
  • Community group – Rowley Regis
  • Community group – Cradley Heath
  • Community group – Great Barr
  • Community group – Wednesbury
  • Community group – Smethwick
  • Community group – Oldbury
  • Community group – West Bromwich
  • Walking group – Sandwell Valley
  • Walking group – Wednesbury
  • Virtual support (drop-in groups and antenatal sessions on Zoom)
  • Maternity ward at Midland Met Hospital
  • Supporting in-person Antenatal Workshops
  • Other – attending events, admin, language skills

If the course is over-subscribed, priority will be given to applicants from Tipton/Oldbury areas and those who speak additional languages.
