Course Title: Helpers (Derbyshire)

Pre-requisites:
The “Group Host” course must be completed before starting this Helper course. If you are successful in gaining a place, you will need to complete this if you have not done so already. See course information below for detail.

Course start date: 03/02/2026

Course end date:05/05/2026

Day and time of sessions: Tuesdays. 8 x Zoom sessions (12.30pm – 2.30pm) and 3 x In-person sessions(11.30am-2pm) – session dates TBC but expected dates are:

  • 1 – Tuesday, 3rd February
  • 2 – Tuesday, 10th February
  • -Break for half term-
  • 3 – Tuesday, 24th February
  • 4 – Tuesday, 3rd March
  • 5 – Tuesday, 10th March
  • 6 – Tuesday, 17th March
  • 7 – Tuesday, 24th March
  • -Break for Easter-
  • 8 – Tuesday, 14th April
  • 9 – Tuesday, 21st April
  • 10 – Tuesday, 28th April
  • 11 – Tuesday, 5th May

Assignments to be completed by: 28/04/2026

Course venue: 8 x Zoom sessions and 3 x In-person sessions held at Matlock Church in the Peak.

Closing date for applications: 09/12/2025

Proposed interview date (if applicable): Tuesday 6th January 12.30pm-1.30pm online using Zoom

DBS required: Yes (BfN will arrange this at no cost to volunteers)

Course information:
Trainees are welcome to bring their children to training sessions. No childcare is available.

The “Group Host” course is a prerequisite for the Helper course. To enrol for the Group Host course, please email derbyshire@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk.

The Group Host course is split into two parts as follows:

  • An online course that you work through at your own pace, completing quizzes as you go. We expect the online part to take around 2 hours to complete.
  • Attendance at at least one face-to-face session at a local group of your choice to shadow the volunteers there.
