Helper 2024/01 Falkirk Health Inequalities Young Parents

Course Title: Helpers (Falkirk)

Number of places available: 12

Course start date: 05/06/2023

Course end date: August 2023

Day and time of sessions: Session days and times will be set as one of the following – please include your availability where asked on the application form and this will help us to set the time that accommodates as many trainees as possible.

  • Monday 9.30 – 11.30am; 1 – 3pm; or 7.30pm – 9.30pm
  • Tuesday 7.30pm – 9.30pm
  • Wednesday 9.30am – 11.30am

Duration:1 2 sessions, 2 hours per week for 12 weeks, plus an introductory session (1 hour)

Assignments to be completed by: 04/09/2023

Course venue: Online

Closing date for applications: 16/05/2023 (extended from 25/04/2023)

Proposed interview date (if applicable): To be arranged for week commencing 22/05/2023.  Either on Zoom or possibly face to face if a venue can be found

PVG required: Yes (BfN will arrange this at no cost to volunteers)

Course information:
This project will see mums aged 25 and under training as breastfeeding peer supporters to run a new support group for young parents in the Falkirk area. 

Trainees are welcome to apply from all of Forth Valley area.

They will also be able to provide 1:1 phone and text support to local families (phones/sims provided by BfN) and may volunteer in other ways as well, such as on the hospital wards.

There will be opportunities for trainees to use the course and volunteering opportunities for other awards such as DofE and Saltire.

Babies and toddlers are welcome to be with mum during training if required.

Expenses for travel will be available to attend any face to face training sessions and once active as volunteers.

No previous experience required apart from having breastfed or given their baby breastmilk. Priority will be given to trainees aged 23 and under and those in the Falkirk area but other applicants will also be considered.
