Course Title: Helpers (Isle of Wight)

Number of places available: 12

Course start date: 16/09/2024

Course end date: 09/12/2024

Day and time of sessions: Mondays 10am-12pm for online sessions and 10.30am-12.30pm for the face-to-face sessions. All training sessions are 2 hours long.  8 will be delivered online via Zoom and 4 will be face-to-face at a venue TBC in Ryde (see below for dates and times). This course is OCN accredited and also involves a small amount of independent learning and the completion of a learning assessment log outside of the training sessions.

  • Session 1 – Monday 16th September 10.30am -12.30pm (face-to-face at a venue in Ryde)
  • Session 2 – Monday 23rd September 10am-12pm (online)
  • Session 3 – Monday 30th September 10am-12pm (online)
  • Session 4 – Monday 7th October 10am-12pm (online)
  • Session 5 – Monday 14th October 10.30am-12.30pm (face-to-face at a venue in Ryde)
  • Session 6 – Monday 21st October 10am-12pm (online)

  • Session 7 – Monday 4th November 10am-12pm (online)
  • Session 8 – Monday 11th November 10.30am-12.30pm (face-to-face at a venue in Ryde)
  • Session 9 – Monday 18th November 10am-12pm (online)
  • Session 10 – Monday 25th November 10am-12pm (online)
  • Session 11 – Monday 2nd December 10.30am-12.30pm (face-to-face at a venue in Ryde)
  • Session 12 – Monday 9th December 10am-12pm (online)

Assignments to be completed by: 13/12/2024

Course venue: 8 sessions on Zoom, 4 sessions at a venue TBC in Ryde. Trainees are welcome to bring their children along to training sessions.  Reasonable travel expenses for the face-to-face training sessions may be covered with prior agreement from the Service Manager.

Closing date for applications: 20/08/2024 (extended from 16/07/2024)

Proposed interview date (if applicable): Wednesday 4th September 1.30-3pm (online). Please be aware that there will be an external interviewer from Barnados present at this interview/informal discussion.

DBS required: Yes (BfN will arrange this at no cost to volunteers)

Course information:
The Breastfeeding Network (BfN) is training a cohort of volunteers to provide peer support at the Breastfeeding Stay and Plays within the Family Hubs https://www.isleofwightfamilycentres.org.uk/breast-feeding-support and other venues across the Isle of Wight.

Following completion of the training and registration with the Breastfeeding Network, volunteers will be expected to commit to regular volunteering for a period of at least one year.

Please indicate on your application which area/areas you would be able to volunteer in.
