BfN2024/27 Member Director (Voluntary) – Closing Date 21.08.23

Who we are looking for

We are currently seeking to elect 2 Member Directors to our Board of Trustees.

At BfN we know that we have amazing members who could bring their own experiences and knowledge of breastfeeding to the role. There is no need for member directors to have other skills (although of course you may have!). But we are really looking for people from any part of the UK who have a commitment to the aims and work of the charity and a passion for the work that we do. It would be great to have people from our currently underrepresented groups but the most important thing is the desire to support BfN as it grows and thrives.

There isn’t an interview process and we require an expression of interest in a letter/email outlining experience with the BfN, why you want to become a Member Director and any other information that the person would like to include. There will be a conversation with the person ensuring that if there are any conflicts of interest, these are considered manageable according to guidance provided by the charity regulator and discussing if the person understands the role and has the capacity to take it on. The person would then decide whether or not to stand for election at the AGM.

We would be happy to have chat with you about what is involved in being a Member Director and the nomination process before you send in your expression of interest. To arrange a chat please e-mail joy.hastings@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk sarah.turner@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk

The Process

If you are a member with up to date registration and would like to put yourself forward for election, the expression of interest in the form of a letter or e-mail should be submitted to recruitment@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk. This should include the name of a fellow member who is willing to be your nominee.

BfN must receive all completed nomination forms no later than 21st August 2023, in order to ensure AGM papers are circulated in sufficient time to all Members.

Once you have sent your expression of interest there will be an informal chat with the Chair/ Vice Chair of the Board and potentially the CEO (times TBC), if time permits to explain the role, answer questions and ensure COI and other requirements are understood/ met.

On 7th October at BfN’s AGM, registered Members will be asked to vote for the new Board of Trustees. If there are more candidates than places on the Board, candidates will be asked to introduce themselves and why they want to stand for election. The successful candidates will be those securing the most votes.

Other Info

Please refer to the role description for more info and if you can complete and return the Equality and Diversity Questionnaire with your Expression of Interest that would be really helpful

Please note this is not an anonymised process.
