Download this press release as a PDF (30kB) here The Breastfeeding Network: Thrush and Breastfeeding Leaflet Please note; Due to a change in the manufacturers licensed use of Daktarin Oral gel ® (Miconazole), which now states that this product is unsuitable for use in babies under 4 months and only with care between 4 and 6 months, BfN will be undertaking an immediate review of the information within the BfN “Thrush and Breastfeeding” leaflet and related drug information fact sheets (included in the drug information pack) and the Drug Information CD. These are being withdrawn from sale and are no longer available on our website, with immediate effect. Please note that BfN can take no responsibility for any leaflets photocopied or distributed subsequent to this press release or for content displayed on external websites. The Breastfeeding Network always strives to provide the most up-to-date and research based information, so inevitably as new information becomes available, materials will change to reflect this. Further information, as well as a FAQ’s specific to thrush and breastfeeding, will be published in due course. Practitioners should note that responsibility for use in a baby under 4 months of age remains the responsibility of the person who prescribes or recommends its use. The manufacturer’s summary of product characteristics (SPC) suggests that the change has been introduced to prevent the risk of choking on the gel, particularly if applied at the back of the mouth or in one single large application.
